The British Army Resilience Program

The success rate of Army soldiers completing commando training has seen a steady decline, to the point of success being 24% between the years of 2018 and 2019. The aim of the project was to increase success using a bespoke imagery intervention that enhances resilience.

RESULTS:

  • The intervention merged goal setting, imagery training and performance plans, resulting in a 44% increase in 2020-21.

  • Furthermore, imagery training significantly enhanced soldier resilience, showing that when experiential action plans are coupled with imagery training, success through resilience can be improved.

“Imagery Coaching is an innovative method of working towards goals and enhancing resilience. Subsequently we have seen a culture shift in the way we teach, and this has increased success on the programs.”
